I’ll probably return again and again to the idea of a metaverse and its development. I think it’s an important subject when it comes to what it means to be a human in the modern world and has profound implications for how individuals and groups interact, and their resulting wellbeing and happiness. Today, I just wanted to point out three concurrent news stories that encapsulate the hold Facebook has on society. (If you haven’t yet, check out my previous post where I question if the metaverse is really needed or even good idea.)
The Capitol is on lock down due to a bomb threat. The alleged suspect has been live streaming on Facebook.
The FTC filed an amended complaint against Facebook in an ongoing federal antitrust suit
Where’s Facebook’s attention this morning? It’s burgeoning metaverse.
This is just one news cycle. One morning. It’s not even 2pm EST yet. I don’t think it requires much additional explanation or connecting of the dots.
